This year for Christmas I am planning to buy some of my closest friends a bottle of Vintage Wine. Something from the 50′s or 60′s. My friends and I are wine enthusiasts which means that we like to drink all sorts of wines from many different genres and time periods. My friends prefer to drink red wines where I like to drink the white wines a little bit more. Whatever type of wine you like to drink, the consensus is the same. The older the bottle, the better the wine. For the last 4 years my friends and I have all swapped old bottles of wine for Christmas, but the result of our gift to each other is still the same, we end up drinking the wine on Christmas. It isn’t a bad way to spend your Christmas Day! This year, I may go with a nice vintage Spanish wine.

The court has ordered our son to take minor in posession classes. It is embarrassing, but we are going to have to grin and bear it. I guess that we have been neglecting his activities, and he found himself in trouble with the law. As much as I hate to admit something like that, it is good to realize that what we were doing was not quite right. We have the right to question what he has been doing, and we have the right to question where he is going. I guess that we just let him do too much of what he wanted to do, and that just lead him into trouble. We should have definitely been more aware of his activities, and now I feel like I failed as a parent. However, I know that putting him in the classes will teach him a thing or two, and we will be better parents from now on.

During our daily business of running our wine club we are often asked about the next big thing in wine and especially the next big thing in California wine. Ever since Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley made it’s way into the best red wine club in the world and won the Paris tasting of 1976, consumers have been incredibly interested in wine from California. A few years ago a number of significant wine critics named Syrah as the next big thing in California wine, then the movie Sideways happened. Instead of Syrah, the general public was introduced millions at a time to Pinot Noir, which effectively moved Merlot on to a back seat in the state. Now, we’re seeing a movement in white wine in northern California. Chardonnay is slowly moving away and the general public is beginning to approach a combination of Sauvignon Blanc and the exotic Riesling with their wine dollars.
